For the Cake Base:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
For the Milk Chocolate Mousse:
- 1 cup milk chocolate, chopped
- 1 1/4 cups heavy cream, divided
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
For the Dark Chocolate Mousse:
- 1 cup dark chocolate, chopped
- 1 1/4 cups heavy cream, divided
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch cake pan.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla.
- Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk to the wet ingredients.
- Pour batter into the pan and bake for 25 minutes.
- Let the cake cool completely before adding the mousse layers.
- Melt the milk chocolate and fold into whipped cream. Spread over the cake.
- Chill the cake for 30 minutes before adding the dark chocolate mousse layer.
- Melt the dark chocolate and fold into whipped cream. Spread over the cake.
- Chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
