Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat)
  • 4 burger buns (brioche or potato rolls)
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • Lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions (optional)
  • Ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your griddle over medium-high heat and lightly oil the surface.
  2. Form the ground beef into 4 loose balls (about 4 ounces each) and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Place each beef ball onto the hot griddle and smash down firmly with a spatula to form a thin patty.
  4. Cook for 2-3 minutes, then flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes, adding cheese during the last minute if desired.
  5. Toast the burger buns on the griddle until golden brown.
  6. Assemble the burger by placing the patty on the bottom bun and adding your favorite toppings.
  7. Top with the other half of the bun and serve hot.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, try adding a bit of garlic powder or onion powder to the beef before forming the patties.
  • Don’t overwork the beef to keep the burgers tender and juicy.
