Description

If you’re looking for a cake that’s both nostalgic and indulgent, this Oreo Birthday Cake is it. Layers of soft vanilla sponge are folded with crunchy Oreos and frosted with a creamy cookies-and-cream buttercream that tastes like your favorite childhood treat. This cake is perfect for birthdays, celebrations, or simply as a show-stopping dessert. With its speckled frosting, Oreo crunch, and festive decoration options, it’s as much a centerpiece as it is a dessert. Whether you’re baking it for kids or adults, it’s guaranteed to be a hit.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ¼ cups whole milk or buttermilk
  • 15 Oreos, roughly crushed

2. For frosting:

  • 1 ½ cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 5 cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 12 Oreos, finely crushed

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two or three 8-inch cake pans.
  • Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  • Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
  • Mix in dry ingredients alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour.
  • Fold in crushed Oreos. Divide batter into pans and bake 30–35 minutes. Cool completely.
  • Make frosting by beating butter, then adding powdered sugar gradually. Mix in cream, vanilla, and finely crushed Oreos.
  • Assemble cake with frosting between layers. Apply crumb coat, chill, then finish frosting. Decorate with whole Oreos or sprinkles.

Notes

  • Chill the cake layers before frosting for easier handling. Don’t overmix after adding Oreos—keep those chunks intact. For extra indulgence, drizzle chocolate ganache between layers.
