With just a handful of ingredients, it delivers rich flavor and satisfying textures, plus it’s easy to customize with your favorite spices and herbs.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80-85% lean)
  • 4 medium Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp chili powder (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ½ cup beef broth or tomato paste mixed with water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • Fresh herbs (thyme, parsley, or rosemary) for garnish
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese (optional)

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté onions until translucent.
  • Add garlic and cook briefly until fragrant.
  • Add ground beef, breaking it up and cooking until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  • Stir in spices, salt, and pepper.
  • Add diced potatoes and beef broth or tomato paste mixture. Mix well.
  • Cover and simmer on low heat for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally until potatoes are tender.
  • (Optional) Sprinkle cheese on top, cover, and cook until melted.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a crispier texture, uncover during the last 5 minutes and cook on medium heat without stirring. Adjust seasoning as needed during cooking. To add more depth, try incorporating Worcestershire sauce or a splash of soy sauce.
