Ground Beef and Broccoli is a quick and flavorful stir-fry that balances savory, sweet, and umami notes. With tender ground beef and crisp broccoli coated in a glossy soy-based sauce, this dish is both comforting and wholesome. Perfect for busy weeknights, it comes together in under 30 minutes and pairs beautifully with rice or noodles. Its versatility and simple ingredients make it a go-to recipe for family dinners or meal prep.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (85/15)
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 3 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp brown sugar or honey
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tsp water
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Optional garnish: sliced green onions, toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Blanch broccoli in boiling water for 2–3 minutes, then plunge into ice water; drain and set aside.
  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and brown the ground beef, breaking it apart, until cooked through. Drain excess fat if needed.
  • Add garlic and ginger to the beef; sauté until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
  • Stir in soy sauce, oyster sauce, and brown sugar. Bring to a simmer.
  • Add broccoli and toss to coat. Cook for 2–3 minutes.
  • Stir in cornstarch slurry to thicken the sauce; cook until glossy.
  • Remove from heat and drizzle sesame oil. Toss and serve garnished with green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

  • For extra heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or sliced fresh chili.
  • Using fresh garlic and ginger is key for vibrant flavor.
  • Avoid overcrowding the pan for best browning.
