French Dip Sandwich – A cozy, restaurant-quality sandwich you can make at home, featuring tender roast beef, crusty bread, and rich, flavorful au jus perfect for dipping. This recipe is indulgent yet surprisingly simple, making it a family favorite or a special solo treat. Each bite delivers a perfect balance of savory meat, soft bread, and aromatic jus.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lb boneless beef chuck roast
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 French rolls or baguette

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Season the beef with salt, pepper, thyme, and rosemary.
  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the beef on all sides until golden brown.
  • Transfer beef to a roasting pan, surround with onions and garlic, pour in broth and Worcestershire sauce, cover, and roast 50–60 minutes.
  • Remove beef, let rest 10 minutes, then slice thinly against the grain.
  • Pour pan juices into a small saucepan, simmer, and adjust seasoning.
  • Serve sliced beef on French rolls with a side of hot jus for dipping.

Notes

  • Resting the meat ensures juiciness.
  • Toast the bread lightly for added texture.
  • Optional toppings include caramelized onions, mushrooms, or a thin layer of horseradish.
