Description

This Southern-style Chocolate Cobbler is the ultimate chocolate lover’s dream! A crackly-topped, soft chocolate cake forms over a rich, fudgy sauce that magically appears during baking. It’s a no-fuss, pantry-friendly dessert that’s easy to make and perfect for any occasion. Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an unbeatable combination.

Ingredients

Scale

1. For the Batter:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

2. For the Topping:

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ cups boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
  2. Make the batter: In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth. Pour into the baking dish.
  3. Make the topping: Combine sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa powder. Sprinkle over the batter.
  4. Add boiling water: Slowly pour the boiling water over the top. Do not stir.
  5. Bake for 35-40 minutes, until the top is set but the bottom is still gooey.
  6. Let sit for 5-10 minutes before serving. Spoon into bowls and top with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use Dutch-process cocoa powder.
  • Add chocolate chips for an even more indulgent texture.
  • To make it less sweet, reduce the sugar topping by ¼ cup.
