Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×5-inch loaf pan with butter or parchment.
  • Mash bananas until mostly smooth in a large bowl.
  • Add melted butter, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract; whisk until combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Fold dry ingredients into banana mixture gently until just combined.
  • Fold in chocolate chips and optional nuts, reserving a few chips for topping.
  • Pour batter into the loaf pan and smooth the top. Sprinkle reserved chocolate chips on top.
  • Bake for 55-65 minutes, checking doneness with a toothpick.
  • Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • For extra moisture, add a tablespoon of yogurt or sour cream.
  • Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top before baking for enhanced flavor.
  • Use very ripe bananas for natural sweetness and best texture.
